Pete Aven

Pete Aven is obsessed with documents.

Prior to Mark Logic, he collected and queried large collections of them for several years at Sun Microsystems and Attensity. During this time his tools were Java, Hibernate, and SQL and he used them with MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, and HP Neoview.

With his keen interest in NLP, and a general frustration with the performance limits of an RDBMS when used for unstructured text, the document gods heard his plea and delivered him thus to the mighty Mark Logic. Here he was granted the format of XML and the formidable tools of XQuery and MarkLogic Server. Just when he thought it couldn't get any better, Microsoft went and opened up their document formats, giving him the opportunity to explore worlds never before seen.

When not geeking out, he enjoys skiing, mountain biking, and taking every opportunity he can to tell you about his Bernese Mountain Dog, Oslo.
